Terms
The terms on which you may hold an account and use the application. Written to be read. Last updated 31 August 2026.
Who you are agreeing with
Budd and Todd Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 13766118, trading as Stewardry. Our registered office and contact details are on the about page. In what follows, "we" is that company and "you" is the person or company holding the account.
What Stewardry is, and what it is not
Stewardry is bookkeeping and accounting software. It records what you tell it and calculates from what it holds.
It is not an accountant, and using it is not taking professional advice. Figures it produces are only as good as the records behind them, and the judgement about whether they are right — and whether a filing is correct before it is made — remains yours or your accountant's. If your affairs are not straightforward, get an accountant. We would rather say this plainly here than have you infer it later.
Its current state
Stewardry is in development and not yet generally available. Accounts are issued by arrangement. Things will change, some of them without notice, and you should not yet rely on it as the only record of your accounts. Keep your own copies.
Corporation tax filing is not enabled. Nothing in Stewardry submits anything to HMRC today. We are not currently listed by HMRC as recognised software, and we will not describe ourselves as recognised before we are.
Your account
Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has them. You are responsible for what is done through your account. If you invite other people into your organisation, you are responsible for what they do in it too.
Do not use Stewardry to break the law, to store other people's data you have no right to hold, or to attack the service or anybody else through it.
Your data is yours
The records you enter belong to you. We hold them on your behalf and use them to run the service for you — nothing else. We do not sell them, do not use them to advertise to you, and do not train anything on them.
You can ask for a copy at any time, and you can ask us to delete everything. How we handle personal data, and the difference between the data you control and the data we control, is set out in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms.
What we do not promise
We will take reasonable care to keep the service running and your records safe, and we take backups. We do not promise it will never be unavailable and we do not promise it will never contain a defect. Given the paragraph about its current state above, treat interruptions as likely rather than unlikely.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Beyond that, we are not liable for lost profits, lost business, or the cost of a penalty arising from a filing you made — and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
If you are dealing with us as a consumer rather than in the course of a business, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page.
The software itself
The Stewardry platform is open source, published under the GNU Affero General Public Licence v3. That licence governs the source code and gives you rights over it that these terms do not take away. These terms cover the hosted service we run for you, which is a different thing from the code.
Ending it
You can stop using Stewardry and ask us to close your account whenever you like. We can close an account if it is being used for something in the list above, and we will tell you why. Either way you get your data out first — we will not hold your records hostage to a disagreement.
Changes
We will update these terms as the service changes. If a change materially affects you we will tell you before it takes effect. The date at the top says when this version was written.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
